Our opening hours are listed here.
Please note we will be closed to the public between the 3rd to 7th December 2019. We will close as normal on Saturday 30th November and re-open on the Tuesday 10th December.
Although the office does not have a formal appointment system you are advised to notify us in advance of your visit so that we are aware of your needs.
If you anticipate using a microform viewer during your visit (primarily to view parish registers, Bishop's transcripts and newspapers), booking a unit is requested in order to ensure a machine is available. We can reserve viwers for up to four hours' use.
When preparing to visit us, please note that only pencils may be used thoughout the public areas, not just with original documents. If you forget your pencil, we have some available to buy. Please note that you will be asked not to bring bags and coats into the searchrooms, leaving them in the lockers provided, and on you first visit our reception team will advise you on the safe handling of original documents to help us preserve our written heritage for present and future generations.
When you first visit, you will be asked to register when you first arrive. Please bring with you a form of identity giving name and address and we will add you to our user database and issue you with a user ticket. The kinds of identity which we will accept are:
- County Archive Research Network card;
- allowance book;
- recent bank statement;
- driving licence;
- recent official bill or invoice;
- passport (for overseas visitors);
- Wiltshire Library card.
Temporary tickets can be issued for one-off visits.
