Making a Visit

Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Chippenham is easy to reach only 5 minutes walk from Chippenham railway station and 10 minutes from M4 junction 17. There is plenty of free coach and car parking. School groups are welcome to visit Monday to Friday from 9.30 am. Please note that we are open to the public on Tuesday to Friday so facilities will be shared with the public and we can only accommodate groups of 30 in our education room and groups of 8 or less in the public search rooms. On Mondays, larger numbers can be accommodated - 60 for a workshop visit, 20 for a GCSE research visit or an introduction to the archives visit for A level students.

Facilities available include:

  • use of well equipped education room
  • disabled access througout the building including toilets
  • picnic tables or indoor room for eating packed lunches
  • lockers for groups using the search rooms
  • vending machines

Group visits to the History Centre benefit from use of original material from the archive and a tour of the strongroom to see how the archive is stored at correct temperature and humidity levels.

Morning session 9.30am - 12noon
Afternoon session 12.30pm - 3.00pm

Charge £3.00 per pupil +VAT
Maximum number 30 Tues-Fri, 60 on Mondays
