Childhood memories

Many of the people we interviewed had fond memories of a childhood spent in the country of their birth. Often they were brought up by an extended family of aunts or grandparents. Economic necessity often required parents to work far away from the family home and indeed some had already migrated to the UK ahead of their children waiting to send for them once they were established.
