What's New

While the History Centre has been closed staff have been busy working from home on new content, including our Conservation & Museums Advisory Service (CMAS). Check out conservator Kayleigh Spring's work on football boots which belonged to soccer legend Pele. The Archives & Local Studies team is creating a new collection about Living in Lockdown documenting Wiltshire and Swindon's experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic. And read our latest blog on tracing your military ancestors online.

Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre

Welcome to the website of the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, your passport to the past.

Following government advice to reduce social interaction between people to help stop the transmission of COVID-19, Wiltshire Council has taken the decision to close the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre from Saturday 21 March until further notice.

In addition, all scheduled events and activities taking place at the history centre are cancelled until the end of June at the earliest. We look forward to rerunning the programme when things are back to normal.

We are sorry for any inconvenience but it is vital we do all we can to protect the public’s health during this time.

People can keep up to date on the latest Public Health England advice and visit Wiltshire Council’s  COVID-19 page.

Please continue to look at our website for further updates.
